HIP HOP FASHION!

HipHop Fashion

Before we begin, hip hop fashion and street fashion are NOT the same thing. Street fashion is more about taking everyday clothes and turning them into a fashion statement and Hip Hop fashion is centered around colorful and oversized jackets and pants. In actual fact, hip-hop fashion came about by default.

This specific genre of fashion started in the 1980s. Throughout the 80s, the genre began becoming affected by the coast, and people like Will Smith began introducing things like high top sneakers and Flat hair fashions. Hip-hop fashion is regarded as a representation of “cool.”

Who remembers the old school parkas?! Those were one of the most abused fashion items when the hip hop style culture started. Baseball caps also became well-known among rappers in the early 1990 s, motivated by the gangsters of old sideways and were, and were frequently times brightly colored, as influenced by African dress. Gangsta style emerged, popularized by N.W.A.The other side of hip hop, or the other hand, went the opposite route, and developed such tendencies as wearing suits, bowler hats, t-shirts, and baseball caps, frequently times these garments would match color clever in order motivated by the gangsters of old neighborhood, wherein clothing color was important.

Celebrities have been the number one supporters of this style, some even going as far as creating a line based on hip hop fashion. Even famous brands have resorted to selling such items. During the mid 1990’s famous clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger had created a jean called The Uptown after the blowup of hip hop fashion, The Uptown cut jeans are pretty much the same as extra-baggy, low-slung jeans manufactured by any other hip-hop designer or popular mainstream manufacturer that addresses the hip-hop marketplace.

Then came Pharrell. As N.E.R.D. turned the urban music technicolour, Pharrell gave hip-hop style new notes – skate, Japanese streetwear, punk. He created a world in which Kanye West could rock a backpack and pink polo and still outsell 50 Cent.

The Story Of Hip-Hop Style, From Run DMC To ASAP Rocky

The intent of hip hop fashion is just to make a flashy statement while not being held back by the seams inside one’s jeans.

My mom’s closet

I wasn’t exactly the most fashionable person, but growing up I started adopting  her style.   My mother is what we call ‘a fashionista’.  She’s a shopaholic, whose favorite item to buy are shoes, and obviously the best accessory that goes with a good pair of heels is a handbag so best believe she has one hell of a collection of the finest handbags, she has a taste for delicate pearl necklaces and earrings and antique rings and watches. Words that best describe her taste are fun, classic, elegant and statement making.  Her sense of style is only a glimpse of her beautiful personality. I thought it fit to start out my blog with her closet, since she played such an important role in my interest in fashion.

Here’s some items you might find in my mom’s closet:

Gianni Versace Jumpsuit
Charles and Keith Handbag and Purse
Charles and Keith Osay heels
Charles and Keith Mid Heel Mules
